Welcome to the Blaine School District and the 2012-13 School Year The 2012-13 school year has arrived. It is my pleasure to welcome back students and staff, as we move forward with the purpose of assuring for the highest levels of academic success for all. We indeed view the Blaine School District to be a unique educational environment. We are privileged to employ one of the most skilled and dedicated group of professionals in the State of Washington. Teachers and support staff strongly desire to work in Blaine. Many choose to spend their entire career in our District. We see this as a clear tribute to the overall quality of the program, and the commitment that we make to supporting staff in their work with students. |
Improving student learning at every level of the system remains at the heart of our vision. Our students consistently demonstrate outstanding academic performance, comparing favorably to other districts across the State. During the 2011-12 program year, both Blaine High School and Blaine Middle School were recipients of State level recognition for academic achievement. Concurrently, a substantially high number of students (11-12) participated in Advanced Placement (AP) courses, serving as evidence of a high level of academic rigor. Students do not achieve success at the secondary (6-12) level without a strong K-5 foundation. We are fortunate to have excellent K-12 administrators, teachers and support personnel, who demonstrate a consistent commitment to making a difference for young people at all levels of the program. These remain very challenging times for our public schools, as both student achievement challenges and revenue decline dominate the headlines virtually everywhere. With strong fiscal support from our community, we have been successful in retaining many programs and services that other districts have had to cut. With passage of an enhanced four-year Maintenance and Operations Levy in February of this calendar year, the future continues to look bright for academic programs in the Blaine School District. In addition, in February, voters granted approval to a $3,000,000 Capital Projects Bond measure that will serve to support the remodel of the Blaine High School Science building, as well as a number of additional, smaller scale, facility projects. We have committed to assuring that the public is kept informed of the progress that we are making with these funds. To that end, regular updates and related details may be accessed on the Blaine School District website. The students and staff of the Blaine School District recognize the extensive level of community ownership and involvement that is in place at all levels of the program, and remain greatly appreciative of this support. The communities of Blaine, Pt. Roberts and Birch Bay take great pride in the learning that takes place in their schools, and most importantly in the ongoing growth and success of students. The employees of the Blaine School District realize how important it is to keep parents and patrons informed of key events and issues across all grade levels. To that end, we hope that you will find an opportunity to visit www.blainesd.org often. There you can learn about opportunities to stay connected to activities involving our students. On behalf of the Board of Directors, and the staff of the Blaine School District, thank you for your continued support to the vitally important work of educating all students. We are looking forward to another great year of learning for students at all levels of the program! Ronald C. Spanjer
