Policy No. 2320 STUDENT TRAVEL INCLUDING FIELD TRIPS, EXCURSIONS AND OUTDOOR EDUCATION The board recognizes that field trips when used as a device for teaching and learning integral to the curriculum are an educationally sound and important ingredient in the instructional program of the schools. Such trips can supplement and enrich classroom procedures by providing learning experiences in an environment beyond the classroom. Field trips which take students out of the state or are planned to keep students out of the district overnight must be approved in advance by the board. Outdoor education resident school plans shall be presented to the board for annual approval. The superintendent has the authority to approve all other field trips. The superintendent shall develop procedures for the operation of a field trip or an outdoor education activity which shall insure that the safety of the student shall be protected and that parent permission is obtained before the student leaves the school. Each field trip must be integrated with the curriculum and coordinated with classroom activities which enhance its usefulness.. If transportation is not provided by provided by BSD, that District will not be responsible No staff member may solicit students for any privately arranged field trip or excursion without board permission. Student Meal Reimbursement Meal allowances for students while engaged in recognized off campus school approved activities, state competitions, which include tax and gratuity, will be allocated on a per diem basis when traveling during normal meal times when ever the meal is not otherwise provided. Meal per diem will be reviewed annually. Students traveling overnight will be allocated at the per diem rate. If a student chooses not to participate in the scheduled state competitions meals and purchases a meal on their own, per diem will not be provided. Students must be in a travel status at 6:30 AM, 12:00 PM, and 6:30 PM to be eligible for breakfast, lunch and dinner respectively.

All out-of-state and overnight travel must have prior approval by the Blaine School District Board of Directors and School superintendent. Meal allowances and associated travel expensed for students will be paid by the Associated student Body Fund. STUDENT Per diem meal expenses of a student while engaged in approved school sponsored activities that take place off campus and recognized state WIAA post season competitions may be provided in accordance with the approval and reimbursement procedures of the district.
