Blaine School District 6th-12th STUDENT USER AGREEMENT

Policy 2022F2

The main purpose of student use of the internet is to do research in support of education and classroom requirements. The use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in a series of cancelled privileges.  Blaine School District makes no warranties. This includes loss of data resulting from delays, non-deliveries, mis-deliveries, or service interruptions caused by its own negligence, errors, or omissions. Blaine School District is not responsible for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through its services.

The following information was extracted from the “Blaine School district Board Policy #2022:  Electronic Information System (K-20 Network).”  Copies of the complete board policy and user agreement are available at any BSD school office.

ACCEPTABLE USE:  THE USE OF ANY ACCOUNT MUST BE IN SUPPORT OF EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

UNACCEPTABLE USE:  THE FOLLOWING ARE EXAMPLES OF ACTIVITIES WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED:

  1. Displaying or distributing sexually explicit, pornographic, obscene, lewd, or other inappropriate messages or pictures
  2. Using obscene language or material
  3. Damaging computers, computer system, or computer networks
  4. Violating copyright laws
  5. Using others’ passwords
  6. Trespassing on others’ systems, folders, work, or files
  7. Excessive use of limited resources (beyond time authorized by administrators/staff)
  8. Employing the network for commercial, personal, or political purposes
  9. Personal e-mail or free surfing during school hours
  10. Installing or modifying software on district equipment
  11. Accessing any computer not explicitly authorized to use
  12. Hate mail, harassment, cyber bullying, and discriminatory remarks
  13. Bypassing district filters and/or accessing filtered sites (i.e., MySpace, Facebook)

STUDENT USER

I understand and will abide by Electronic Information System (K-20 Network) Policy #2022.  I further understand that any violation of the regulations contained therein may constitute a criminal offense. Should I commit any violation, my access privileges may be revoked and school disciplinary action or appropriate legal action may be taken.

PARENT OR GUARDIAN (If you are under the age of 18 or 18 or older but still living at home or with a guardian, a parent or guardian must also read and sign this statement).

As the parent or guardian of this student, I have read the Internet Use Policy. I understand that this access is designed for educational purposes. I recognize, however, that it is impossible for Blaine School District to completely restrict access to controversial materials and I will not hold the school district responsible for materials acquired on the network. Further, I accept full responsibility for supervision if and when my child’s use is not in a school setting.  I hereby give permission for my child to have Internet access and certify that the information contained on this form is correct.

STAFF

I have read the Internet Use Policy and agree to promote this agreement with the student. Because the student may use the network for individual work or in the context of another class, I cannot be held responsible for the student use of the network. As the sponsoring teacher, I do agree to instruct the student on acceptable use of the network and proper network etiquette.
