‘Blitz’ Interventions at Blaine Primary School
What is a ‘Blitz’?
A ‘Blitz’ is an intentional strategy designed for a group of targeted
children who have similar skill needs. So... a ‘Blitz’ is used when there is a need to accelerate learning in a specific skill, i.e. Letter name recognition, Sight Word recognition, etc. At our school, a ‘Blitz’ happens in the classroom, in the hall, library and PE. Children rotate through centers and practice the skill they need to work on in a game format that is fun and engaging. We choose children based on assessments and then form
groups and design interventions that will address their area of need. Children rotate through work stations or centers every 10 – 15 minutes with support from teachers and trained support staff.
The ‘Blitz’ experience is a place of joy and celebration!

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

First Grade Interventions

Throughout the year, we have been providing additional

opportunities for learning and support within literacy and math.

On a daily basis, children from each class and grade level

participate in activities that give them extra practice

in a skill that they are receiving classroom instruction on.

Interventions can come in a variety of different forms,

but our goal is to present instruction in a game format

so that learning is fun, meaningful and effective.

Some examples of Literacy interventions include:

sight word games such as Kaboom, sight word sand castles,

sight word hopscotch, sight word Jenga, sight word ball toss, and

sight word snakes and ladders just to mention a few.

Examples of Math interventions include: Roll and Record making ten, making ten memory, counting collections, math splat and a variety of other games that pertain to the current math unit of study.

It has been our pleasure to work with your children this year.
