Math in the 2001-2002 school year will be a little different from the math you have seen before. This year we are utilizing a new math program titled Connected Mathematics. Connected Mathematics stresses problem solving skills, interpretation, self exploration and communication skills. Because of the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) that seventh graders take, more emphasis is being placed on communication. Within the Connected Mathematics series students will be required to write explanations of how they arrived at their answer. This allows students to better understand their answer and how it connects to their world.

In addition to Connected Mathematics, there will specialized skill practice. Problems that you are used to seeing on a worksheet will be used when specific practice is needed.
