Blaine Middle School Retention Policy

If a student fails to pass a Core class (Language Arts, Reading, Social Studies, Math, or Science) at Blain Middle School, that student is required to pass a tuition based summer school. If the student does not pass summer school, then the student must repeat the failed class(es) the following year. Below is a description of grades that would place a student in summer school or in a position to repeat the class.

  3. A student must earn a minimum of three points for the year to pass the class.
  4. Having earned the three points, a student must earn at least a "D" for the third trimester to pass the class.
  5. If a student fails one half of the core class, she/he must repeat both halves.
  6. Individual considerations will be made for Special Education, Learning Assistance Program, and English as a Second Language students based upon ability and effort.
  7. When a student repeats a class the following year, she/he may move on to the next grade in three different ways.
