Outline of Grading - What Is Evaluated

  • Participation: Since this class requires active participation, part of your grade is based on your overall contribution to the class.
  • Notebook: This is an organized collection of class notes, notes on assigned reading, and daily assignments.
  • Quizzes: These are relatively short assessments to evaluate student progress. They are to be done in one class period. They may sometimes be done in groups.
  • Collected and Assessed Problems (CAPs): Problems and short projects that may extend over more than one class period. Students are expected to work on CAPs outside of class.
  • Major Evaluations: Each semester there will be 4-5 unit tests, at least one significant project, and a final exam.
  • Semester grades will be determined by the criteria listed below, not on strict percentages or a curve.
