Course Offerings

A+ COMPUTER MAINTENANCE

  • PREREQUISITE: Keyboarding or Digital Design (11,12)
    • This course is based on the industry recognized A+ Certification program, and students who complete this class will be eligible to become A+ Certified. Students will learn how to perform troubleshooting, provide customer service, perform hardware and software installation, configuration and upgrades, and perform system operations monitoring, and maintenance. The program is based on classroom instruction and hands-on lab work.

CAD

  • PREREQUISITE: NONE (9, 10, 11, 12)
    • Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) continues to be a career area where talented technicians are in high demand. Whether your interest is in commercial drafting, architecture, or engineering, this class can give you a head start in your career, or answer questions you may have about whether this is right for you. Five to six weeks is devoted to traditional drafting skills, with the remaining time learning AutoCAD, which is the industry standard, and other CAD programs. Tech Prep enables you to earn credit in Bellingham Technical Collegeõs Engineering Technology program.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

  • PREREQUISITE: Keyboarding (9, 10, 11, 12)
    • This course is designed to familiarize the student with basic business applications using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office. Students will also learn basic internet navigation techniques. Applications include word processing, database, spreadsheets, graphics, and desktop publishing. Students may earn MOUS certification in this course.

DIGITAL DESIGN

  • PREREQUISITE: NONE (9, 10, 11, 12)
    • Students learn how to use the computer as a communications tool. Activites include: creation of slide shows, interactive presentations, 3D simulations, morphs and animation; editing audio and video tracks; developing or increasing internet skills. Basic computer skills are helpful but not required.

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY - INTRODUCTION

  • PREREQUISITE: NONE (9, 10, 11, 12)
    • Students will design and create models and projects as solutions to given problems using the related resources, processes, and applications of technology. The process of design is emphasized as students explore different areas of technology. (CROSS CREDIT: Science or Vocational)

KEYBOARDING

  • PREREQUISITE: NONE (9, 10, 11, 12)
    • This is a one-semester course which helps students learn the keyboarding system using the touch method. Students will improve their basic keyboarding skills with emphasis on speed, accuracy, and production. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to perform basic formatting procedures for business letters, memos, tables, and reports. This course also covers an introduction to word processing on the computer, and familiarization with the 10-key pad.

TELEVISION PRODUCTION I

  • PREREQUISITE: NONE (10, 11, 12)
    • Students learn the basics of production in video and television, while performing the role of each member of a production crew. Students learn to operate cameras, switchers, graphics, lighting, and sound equipment, work "on camera,Å and learn to write scripts for their own productions. Daily attendance and participation is a must. (CROSS CREDIT: Fine Arts or Vocational).

TELEVISION PRODUCTION II

  • PREREQUISITE: Instructorõs permission (10, 11, 12)
    • Students will manage, write, shoot, and edit stories and features as producers of Blaine High Schoolõs weekly broadcast and video yearbook, using digital video format. Students will also produce other projects as they learn about careers in television and video. (CROSS CREDIT: Fine Arts or Vocational)
