We encourage Blaine Elementary School students to wear clothing that is clean, neat, and appropriate. The state regulations require that shoes must be worn at all times.
Lunch cards are assigned to each student. Money may be deposited into their accounts at the office. Prices will be included on the menus. Students are not permitted to charge lunch so please make sure you provide either money or a sack lunch.
All payments must be in U.S. funds.
Those students who ride bicycles to school are required to wear helmets and are requested to leave their bicycles in the racks provided until they leave for home. Students should have locks to protect their property.
TELEPHONES Messages may be left for a teacher before, during, and after school by voice mail. Parents may contact their children during school hours in case of an emergency, otherwise they may leave a message in the office.
Arrangements to go home with friends must be made prior to coming to school. It is important that all parents of the children involved be aware of and in agreement with what the children are to do after school.
In compliance with Washington State law, each student enrolled in Blaine Elementary is expected to attend classes on a regular basis. Daily attendance is one of the keys to a student's educational success. The only excused absences are those resulting from illness, medical/dental appointments, and those required by parents.
The student must bring a signed and dated note from the parent or guardian stating the reason for the absence. Please call the office to inform the school when your child is going to be absent.
Failure to attend any class or a school day without a valid reason is a truancy. It is the student's responsibility to report to class on time. Students must always go to class and get teacher permission to leave. If non-attendance is a problem then parents and school officials will meet to find ways to improve attendance.
All absences without a parent or guardian signed note will be considered unexcused. Chronic attendance problems will be referred to Whatcom County Courts.
Students are to remain on the school site from the time they arrive until the time school is out. Students are not to stay after school except in supervised activities with a staff member.
Students are expected to be in their classes and ready to begin class at 9:10. All students are expected to be well behaved in the hallways and classrooms. General horseplay, throwing things, running, chasing each other, pushing, kicking, tripping, hitting, and playing practical jokes are not appropriate. Food and drinks are permitted in designated areas only. Gum is not allowed in school at any time.
Electronic toys such as gameboys, radios, walkmans, and remote controlled cars are too expensive and disruptive to be at school. Skateboards and roller blades are fun, but too dangerous to be used where there are lots of people. Please make sure they stay at home.
