Loving Things to Do For/With a Child

 

Tuck a note in lunch bag, backpack, planner

Read a fun book aloud together

Listen to the child talk on a topic important to her

Come to school and have lunch together

Attend an outside of school activity (game, special class, etc.)

Volunteer for an hour in the child's classroom

Play a game together (board game, catch, hopscotch, make-believe, etc.)

Bake cookies together

Visit the library for a bookor attend a special free craft or book event

Walk the dog together

Ask the child to write the grocery list as you dictate items

Build and toss paper airplanes

Let the child "help" with a home repair job (ie hand tools, etc.) as age appropriate

Tuck the child in at night

Walk along the beach to search for shells, agates or just throw rocks in the water

Fly a kite (build one from sticks and newspaper or tissue paper!)

Make popcorn balls

Look at old family pictures and tell the stories about those times

Put on music and teach each other dances

Pack a picnic and share it at the beach, at the park, in the woods. . . ???

Make silly, wild, creative hats and then have a tea party

Play street hockey with brooms and a nerf or whiffle ball

Discover a new craft together like dough art, origami (Chris has directions!)

Get a book and learn card tricks!

Write silly poems together

Make up a secret code and write messages to each other

Plant some seed and watch them grow (eg plastic egg carton & marigolds)

Make up a skitand then perform and video tape it!

Hide a "treasure" (small toy/treat). Draw a map or leave clues in the house to find it.

Learn the sign language alphabet together. Spell your name or simple words
(eg yes, no, book, cat, banana, love, sleep). Have fun quizzing each other!

Design a family flag on cloth or old pillowcase; fabric paints, dowel/cardboard tube

Play balloon volleyball (sit in chairs across a table, or ???) How many times can you hit it?!
