Developmental Needs of

Elementary School Students

As they take another step toward independence, children continue to find their place in the world outside their family unit. They begin to understand the connection between skills learned now at school and skills they will need for a future job...coming on time, organizing materials, completing tasks, talking in front of a group, and the like. They become more adept at identifying problems, proposing solutions and choosing an action plan. Children learn more about honesty, trust, respect and lots of other character values. They learn to stick up for themselves, assist others, work co-operatively in groups, and to take responsibility for their actions.

When children experience success and are proud of their own decisions, their confidence and positive sense of self is boosted!
