Safety (3.3): Students will follow 3 simple rules/Levels/Solving Conflicts; have shoes tied/secured properly; focus on safe locomotor movement. Students are not to purposely kick the soccer balls at another student.

Set-Up and Equipment:14 soccer balls; 2 cones for every 6 players - set up six feet apart around the gym (12 - 18 cones) - or if out at the tennis courts set up cones the width of the vertical beams using the courts as offense area; dry erase markers and board

Introduction: Time Activity

1 Have Students line up along the wall as they come in (to tie their shoes). 3,4,5 Once all the students have arrived have them jog/walk TO MUSIC for the time of thier grade (i.e. 3 min for 3rd graders, etc.)

2 Stretch: Intro Quadriceps (or "Quads") stretch. Discuss the quadriceps muscle, how many muscles make up the Quads, and how to stretch the group. Then stretch for 30 seconds each side.

Have students sit down with a partner in designated area to demo next skill

4 min Box Out Skill Drill: Designate a goal area such as the large white lined rectangle in the gym. Students must dribble ball inside the square while trying to defend their own ball. When a person's ball is kicked/dribbled/rolled outside the boundaries then they must dribble the ball once around before coming back in where their ball exited.

6 on 6 Skill Drills As before: Have class sit in groups of 6 (or groups of 5). After you count each person 1-6 explain that:
Defense
1 goalie and 2/3 defense (omit 1 defense if 5v5)
Offense
assign #4,5, and 6 wings and center position

Demo with two groups of 6. Have Defense setup as 1 goalie and 2 defenders. Do this for both teams. Then AGAIN explain the position of defense is to: 1) take the ball away from offense by breaking up the play and 2) get the ball down to offense so they can score.
Offense has one job: 1) SCORE

Then match up for 6on6 teams. Just rotate the two defense (into offense) and offense positions (into defense - doing rock-paper-scissors for goalie - best of one!) after 1/2 the allotted time for 3rd graders.
.
Goalie can use hands
Game is played width of gym
Offense can not cross over black/grey line to help defense
Defense can not cross over black/grey line to help offense - so at one time it will always be 3 offense vs. 3 defense

Closure:
What is the 2 jobs of Defense?

What is the #1 job of Offense?
