Safety (3.3):
Students will follow 3 simple rules/Levels/Solving Conflicts; have shoes tied/secured properly; focus on safe locomotor movement. Students are not to purposely kick the soccer balls at another student.

Set-Up and Equipment:
28 soccer balls; 2 cones for every 6 players - set up six feet apart around the gym (12 - 18 cones) - or if out at the tennis courts set up cones the width of the vertical beams using the courts as offense area; dry erase markers and board

Introduction:
Time Activity

1 Have Students line up along the wall as they come in (to tie their shoes).

3,4,5 Once all the students have arrived have them jog/walk TO MUSIC for the time of thier grade
(i.e. 3 min for 3rd graders, etc.)

2 Stretch: Intro Quadriceps (or "Quads") stretch. Discuss the quadriceps muscle, how many muscles make up the Quads, and how to stretch the group. Then stretch for 30 seconds each side.

6 min Soccer warm-up dribbling the ball in self-space with CONTROL with sweet spot, then sour spot; then partner up. Taller returns ball to bag while shorter retains the ball. Taller will try to steal the ball from shorter. After 2 minutes have it where anyone can steal the ball from anyone else.

8 Drop kick: Discuss why do we drop kick (for the goalie to kick the ball OVER the heads of the opponents to get the ball to team mates so they can score in a game) Demo the drop kick focusing on these three cues:

Kick the ball with your shoelaces

point your toe to where you want the ball to go

follow through to get the ball in the air

Now have the taller student go to the far black line while shorter gets the ball from the bag. Kicking widthwise only.

Encourage 4/5th graders to trap the ball first before picking up to drop kick

15 3on 3 Skill Drills Have class sit in groups of 6 (or groups of 4). After you count each person 1-6 explain that:
Defense
Position 1: Goalie
Position 2 and 3: Defender
Offense
Position 4: Right wing
Position 5: Left wing
Position 6: Center (Omit if 2 vs. 2)
Demo with a group of 6 . Have 1's go in goal, 2 and 3 stand 10 ft' in front of goal, and 4, 5, 6's at and over half court (grey) line. Then explain the position of defense is to: 1) take the ball away from offense by breaking up the play and 2) get the ball over the grey line.

Offense has one job: 1) SCORE

Then match up for 3 on 3 (or 2 on 2) teams rotating students about every 4 minutes. Just rotate the three defense (into offense) and offense positions (into defense - doing rock-paper-scissors for goal - best of one!).

Goalie can use hands to pick up the ball and drop kick it ONLY (to work on drop kicking skills
Game is played width of gym

Closure:
What part of the foot do you kick the ball with when doing a drop kick?

Where do you point your toe when doing a drop kick?
