VOLLEYBALL Unit!

 

Purpose of this Unit Theme is to provide students with the basic skills necessary to feel comfortable with an net game activity such as volleyball. Within this 8-day unit students will learn an activity that will help them develop the skills necessary to not only learn how to (properly) strike and volley an object, but to learn basic court rules and etiquette associated with various net games in general.

 

To meet the standard (rubric score of 3) set by the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) for Health and Fitness and their Grade Level Expectations a physically educated student will know and be able to do for:

Essential Academic Learning Requirements 1.1.1: Demonstrate physical skills ­

3rd Grade
Volley to a stationary object such as a partner using either/or FA Bump / OVHD Set Pass without the net

4th Grade
Volley in succession to a partner using either/or FA Bump / OVHD Set Pass over the net.

5th Grade
Volley an object by using either/or FA Bump / OVHD Set Pass during game play

Assessment

Formative assessment for this unit will be both a pre- and post-write of skills, knowledge, and attitude of volleyball. A summative assessment based on the above EALRs will be conducted on day 8.

 

Associated Fitness Assessment

The Sit and Reach for flexibility will be practiced every day and post-testing will conclude at the end of the unit.

Associated Muscle Group

After the 1-minute Run Club warm-up students will learn how to stretch (Sit and Reach) and strengthen (bottom-kickers) the hamstring muscle group while learning function, location, and number of muscles.
