Cricket Unit

The purpose of the Cricket Unit is so that all students can participate during the class session develop throwing, catching, fielding, batting and base-running skills as related to the game of softball/baseball while meeting the following EALRs:

To meet the standard (rubric score of 3) set by the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) for Health and Fitness and their Grade Level Expectations a physically educated student will know and be able to do for:

EALR 1.1.1 ­ Demonstrate physical skills that contribute to movement proficiency:

3rd Grade:

Throw with mature form to a stationary target
To catch with two hands

4th Grade:

Throw accurately with mature form to a moving target
Catch with mature form objects thrown at different levels

5th Grade:

Throw a variety of balls within various activities and force,
Catch and field a variety of balls.

Assessment

Summative assessment of their skills will be taken on day 8; peer/self assessment of the fitness assessment: push-ups

 

Associated Fitness Assessment

The 30-second push-up test (on toes or knees) measuring the health-related component muscular strength (under 8 reps) or muscular endurance (over 8 reps). The 30-second push-up fitness assessment will be practiced every day during this unit and post-tested on day 7.

Associated Muscle Group

After the 1-minute Run Club warm-up students will learn how to stretch (tricep over-the-head stretch) and strengthen (push-ups or chair dips) the tricep muscle group while learning function, location, and number of muscles.

Lesson1
Throwing and catching, throwing for accuracy, catching grounders

Lesson 2
Throwing and catching, fielding (grounders), batting, and throwing for accuracy.

Lesson 3
Throwing for accuracy, catching, batting, and fielding (grounders, etc.). Intro softball/baseball-
related rules for outs

Lesson 4
Throwing for accuracy, catching, fielding, batting, and base-running. Development of
softball-related rules, and teamwork.

Lesson 5, 6, and 7
Throwing for accuracy, catching, fielding (cut-offs, back-up, etc.), batting, and base-
